Ada Marie Holstein was born to Ersel and Sarah Adkins in 1930 at Secoal, WV, and lived in the state all of her 86 years. She was a loved mother to Sharon; loving grandmother to Bruce (Erika), Chad (Amy), and Tiffani (Gary); and loving great-grandmother to Rylan, Brianne, Cameron, Michael, and Kylie. She was the loved sister to Faye (Don) Price, and Barbara Jarrell; and loving aunt to Jeff, Jennifer, and Chris. She was preceded in death by her husband Lon, whom she married in 1948 after his service in WWII, and by her brother Raymond. She worked for many years as cashier for Black’s, and before that at Ellis’ Department Store. She also volunteered for Boone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She was an over 50 year member of First Baptist Church Danville; a long-time president and treasurer for the Women’s Missions Society; a choir member for most all of those years; and active in most all church activities. She was a good friend to many, especially enjoying the “lunch bunch” most every Friday.
She read her Charleston Gazette virtually everyday, and truly enjoyed Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, often answering many of the questions. She also thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo, though she had to endure good-natured kidding about her “gambling” from family members. She was a caring, traditional homemaker, keeping a spotless house, and a good cook (though she “always” burned the green beans, jokes son-in-law Rodney).
The family expresses a very special “thank you” to Ada’s neighbors and friends Danny & Diane; Margaret and Patti; and Glenna Stewart for their help over the past few years.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Women’s Missions Society, or Hope For Kids through First Baptist Church Danville.
Memorial service/celebration of life will be held at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, at 11 am on Wed. Nov. 2, with Pastor Geoff Saunders officiating.
