Annatta Josephine Anthony born May 31, 1931 entered into the arms of Jesus on March 18, 2016 after a short illness. She was one of thirteen children born to the late Peter Leonard & Betty Elizabeth Smoot.
Annatta, better known as “Josephine” graduated from Carver High School & shortly after married Luther A. Anthony SR in 1950. After marriage she relocated to Columbus Ohio where she pursued a career in the nursing field at Children's Hospital, retiring after 30 plus years. Annatta greatly enjoyed helping others and had a passion for children.
In 1995 Annatta moved back to her hometown Madison WV to take care of her aging mother and sick sisters. She joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Michael Pollard. She was the Superintendent of Sunday School, Financial Secretary, Member of the Mission, Treasurer and a member of the Zion Baptist Missionary Choir.
Annatta was proceded in death by her parents P.L and Betty Smoot, husband Luther A. Anthony SR, daughter Venice Joyce, son Elliot Ness, grandson Cleve C. Anthony, six brothers & four sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Benjamin (Gus) Anthony, Luther (Foot) Anthony JR, one daughter Marcia Kidwell, brother Norman Smoot, sister Clair Smoot, three granddaughters Miranda, Cortni & Brandy Anthony, two grandsons Danny Kidwell & Shawn M. Anthony along with a host of great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends & family.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Rev. Michael Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison.
Friends may call noon to service time on Thursday.
