Arthur E. Dingess

May 2, 1936 — November 10, 2017

Arthur E. “Dickie” Dingess of Van, Boone County, passed away on November 10, 2017, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Danville, WV.

Dickie was born at Van on May 2, 1936 and graduated from Van High School. He was the third of eleven children of William and Ona Bell Dingess, deceased. He lived his entire life in Van. Dickie worked in the Dingess grocery store at Van for many years, until the store property was sold to accommodate a new bridge at Van. He also operated a small equipment business and worked as a security guard. He served as a member of the Boone County Commission and also served for many years as a member of the group that brought the public water system to the Van area. Dickie was a true Mountaineer. He loved hunting and fishing and was a fan of the WVU sports teams. He also loved the NY Yankees.

In addition to his parents, Dickie was predeceased by his wife, Janice “Sissy” Dingess; daughter, Ona Pearl Dingess; brother, Jerry Wayne Dingess; brother-in-law, Ott Davis; and sister-in-law, Helen Dingess.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Rita Jo Tincher Nettles; siblings: brothers, Billy (Burrhead), David (Sandra), John (Hisea), Ronald (Sue), Donald (Billie Sharon), Roger (Kim) and Larry (Brenda); sisters, Deloris Jean Davis and Mary Jane Kendall; and sister-in-law, Sue Hunter Dingess. Also, Dickie is survived by his best friend and partner for his last two years, Vinni White, and her family. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive him. Our hearts are broken in the loss of our beloved brother.

To honor Dickie, if you desire, the family suggests that donations be made to the Van Volunteer Fire Department, Box 138, Van, WV 25206 or a charity of your choice.

In keeping with Dickie’s wishes, his remains were cremated. Graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Memory Gardens at Low Gap with Timmy Spratt officiating.
