Arthur "Red" Hill

Arthur “Red” Hill, 87, of Madison passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Arthur was born August 2, 1925 and was the son of the late Irvin and Berkie Hill. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, of 66 years, Madalyn Hill; daughter Linda Thurmond; grandson Chuck Sanders; granddaughter Shelia Sanders; and great granddaughter Amanda Sanders. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Denver, Albert and Burton and two sisters Gaynell and Juanita.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a Deacon of The Danville Church of Christ. He enjoyed bowling and loved his dogs. Arthur retired from Westmoreland Coal Company after 37 years of service where he also served as the Financial Secretary of UMWA Local 9735 for many years. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger.
He is survived by sons Ronnie (Darlene) Hill of Madison and Doug (Diana) Hill of Danville; daughters Charlotte (Jack) Toler of Lakeland, FL, Patty Gillispie of Madison, Kathy (Joel) Chapman of North Fork and Carol Ball of Madison; brothers Hildree of Drawdy, Harley of Foster and Norman of Camp Creek; sisters Twila and Yvonne of Danville; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Thomas Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care that was given.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm Tuesday Dec. 11, 2012 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with ministers Richard Runyan and Ronnie Linville officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park Danville. Friends may call from 6-9 pm Monday at the funeral home.
