Arthur Eugene Yeager
Arthur Eugene Yeager of Madison passed away Wednesday, November 20, at Hubbard House West (Thomas Hospital), one day after his 76th birthday. He was born November 19, 1937, to Fred and Garnet Yeager.
He graduated from Van High School in 1957. He was a former Kroger employee for nine years. He was an electrician and retired from Westmoreland Coal Company with 29 years service. He was a 48-year member of the United Mine Workers of America and loved and respected his union brothers and sisters. He was a member of the Madison Baptist Church.
Arthur was a Mason, member of Odell Lodge 115, Madison; Marine, and member of American Legion Post 87, a former member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, and a past president of the Madison Lions Club. He loved Boone County and the Madison community and was an avid supporter of community events and projects to improve his hometown. He especially enjoyed attending the annual West Virginia Coal Festival in Madison and served as a volunteer in the Coal Museum during the week-long event.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Walter; and sisters, Evelyn Yeager, Betty Stover, Teresa Canterbury, and Patricia Hogan.
Survivors: Wife, Janet (of 51 years); daughter Angela (Keith) Stembridge of Hudson, Florida; sister, Mary Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Handley Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Butcher officiating. Burial will be in the Price Cemetery at lower Rock Creek with Masonic rites.
Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Madison Baptist Church Food Pantry, or to the Boone County Community Foundation.
