Avis Moore Leopold

Avis Leopold of Jesup, GA passed away on May 21st, 2023 at the age of 90 in Jacksonville, Florida.

She was born on January 22, 1933 in Uneeda, WV to Cledith and Opal Green.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Arnold Edward Moore, her son Arnold Paul Moore, her daughter-in-law April Moore and her siblings Evelyn Mullins, Deloris Adkins, and Howard Green.

Avis was a woman full of love, smiles and giggles. She was very giving, her happiest moments were spent with her family, her greatest joy was all of her grandchildren. No one ever left her house empty handed. She loved spending hours in her gardens tending to the most unusual and beautiful flowers. Avis had a successful career with her second husband Ted Leopold. Together they ran a dairy farm, a very successful Green House and a tropical fish store. Later Avis worked as a quality assurance inspector at Rich’s Food in Lake City, PA. Avis loved her Lord and her beloved Church of Christ family in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was a devoted member of her church and worshipped regularly. 

Avis is survived by her daughter Pamela (Steve) McNeely from West Melbourne, Florida, her daughter Debora (John) Forsyth from Jesup, Georgia, her son James (Theresa) Moore of Corry, Pennsylvania, her sister Joan(Harry) Atkins from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, her brother Eddie Green and Joella from Melbourne, Florida, her brother-in-law Bobby Mullins from Taylor, Michigan, brother-in-law Erman Moore of Wharton, WVA and her sister-in-law Peggy Green of the Villages, Florida;17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; and 24 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to The Church of Christ, Grandview Blvd. Erie, PA.

Services for Avis will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV.  

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home Wednesday.
