Bebe Jacqueline Barker of Danville went home to be with her Savior On January 4, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
Bebe was born at home in Danville to her parents Alfonso John Carrico and Eloise Hopkins Carrico on May 15, 1929.
She graduated from Scott High School and attended West Virginia University for one year after which she married Leon Barker and was blessed with three children, Pamela McCarty, Artie Barker and Kim Burgess. She held several jobs in her career, she worked for Hecks in Nitro, Dr. T.R. Barker in Danville as a dental assistant, Town of Danville where she was secretary and enjoyed keeping the children of Danville Grade School safe as a crossing guard morning and evening, Mr. Donut in Danville as a baker where she enjoyed treating her family to yummy treats, and Boone Memorial Hospital in the Housekeeping Department. It was from this job that she retired to spend her remaining years with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren as they were her greatest joy.
Bebe was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Danville where the Hopkins family were founders and great supporters and were such a great part of the growth of the church. As long as she was able she was a faithful member and attender.
Bebe was predeceased by her grandparents T.J. and Alice Hopkins of Danville and her parents Alfonso John Carrico and Babe Carrico of Danville. She leaves behind her three children, Pamela McCarty, Artie Barker (Kitty), and Kim Burgess (Steve Huffman). Her grandchildren, Pamela's children, Tracy (Ricky) Starkey, Amanda (Ben)Stephens; Artie's children, Shannon (Katy) Barker and Patrick (Renate) Barker. Kim's children, Katie (Dave) Simmons and T.C. (Brittany) Burgess. Twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Her brother Richard "Boney" (Anne) Carrico and his children Rick Carrico and Toney Carrico.
The family would like to thank Boone County Community Organization for all of their help and support with a special thanks to Cindy Gillispie who has been a true gift of love and care. The family would also like to thank Hospice Care of Madison with special thanks to Melanie Martin and Libby Smith for all their love and support. Also a special thank you to family friend Kathy Hill for all the years of care she has given our Mother.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Bill Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.
