Bernard Grant Rice

September 16, 1924 — March 28, 2019

Bernard Grant Rice, 94, of Frametown, WV went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2019.

He was born on September 16, 1924 in Tamcliff, WV to the late Claude Rice and Gracie Staton Rice. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Henrietta Jean Napier Rice; daughter, Sandra Kaye; brothers, Ralph Rice, James Rice and Glen Rice; and granddaughter, LaRay Genene Rice.

He is survived by two sons, Danny (Diana) Rice of Big Ugly, Larry (Kathy) Rice of Barrett; one sister-in-law, Fran Rice of Keeners Ridge; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren; two very special friends, Steve and Barb Evernham; and a special niece, Gracie Margret Rice Ball of Keeners Ridge.

He attended Frametown Methodist Church. He served the Lord for more than 30 years and was an ordained deacon. He was a coal miner for 43 years and retired from Eastern Coal. During WW ll he was in the CCC from 1941-1942, stationed in Lewiston, Montana. He was then transferred to Marlington, WV where he helped build Watoga State Park. He was an avid ourdoorsman. He loved hunting and camping and fishing on the Greenbrier River. He was called a pack rat by his family because of his love for fleamarkets and his collections. He will be sadly missed by his family, church family and friends.

His favorite book of the bible was Psalm 133.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastor Larry Cochran and Pastor Phil Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville WV.
