Berta Jean Stollings

Berta Jean Stollings, 81, of Quinland, WV left us in death on February 14, 2014.

She was born December 29, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Nova and Effie (Bonds) Jarrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband Howard Stollings; brother Belmont Jarrell; son Michael Robertson; grandson Rodney Hager; great-grandsons Levi Robertson and “Baby Smutko”.

Mom loved a pretty home where she was a care giver for over 30 years. She loved people and caring for them. Her home provided many years and memories of wonderful people who lived there, and those who visited there. She made all feel welcome providing meals and warm association. Berta Jean was a religious person who had Faith in God and in Jesus’ Ransom Sacrifice. Mom loved music especially religious music. She sang in church and enjoyed her association with fellow believers.

Berta Jean is survived by her brothers David and Delmar Jarrell of Robinson; her four children, Roger Leslie Robertson and daughter-in-law Diana Faye Robertson of Quinland, WV, Ronetta Sue Robertson of Quinland, WV, Rosetta Alice Thurmond and son-in-law Johnny Thurmond of Danville, WV and Roleena Renee Smutko and son-in-law Charles “Chuck” Smutko of Miffland, WV; ten grandchildren, Wendy Craddock and husband Wes Craddock, Eric Robertson, Rachael Price (Robertson) and husband Travis Price, John Robert Walther, Melissa Tevis (Thurmond) and husband Ryan Tevis, Elizabeth Johnson (Smutko) and husband Garrett Johnson, Steven Smutko and Jordon Smutko; great-grandchildren, Jeff Perry, Josh Perry, Sasha Perry, Lynnette Robertson, Paige Robertson, Brittney Mullin, Bethany Price and Brett Price; great-great grandchildren, Rylee Perry, Eric Perry, Anna Perry and Chessa Sigmon (Robertson).

The family is especially appreciative to Genesis Health Care/Marmet Center where Mom received health care and lasting friends “second to none”. A special thanks to Dr. Joe Ferris and the wonderful nurses and CNA’s, the dietary, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance and administrative staff that facilitated mom’s care with each of their own special skills and caring compassion. They truly know what Health Care is about and how to deliver it. Thank You all for caring for our Mom as a part of your family. The family of Berta Jean Stollings.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV, with Ryan Tevis and Garrett Johnson officiating. Burial following at Family Gardens, Madison,WV.
