Betty Lou Adkins, 83, of West Hamlin passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington after a long illness.
She was born January 4, 1932 in Robinette, Logan County to the late Redman and Gwendolyn Hall Adkins.
Betty attended Man High School before moving with her family to Lincoln County. She later met her first husband of forty seven years, the late Emmett Adkins. They were married July 8, 1950 and were blessed with six children. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her son, W. Wayne “Pete” Adkins; brothers, Elva, Merlin, Jennings, Hubert and Jack Adkins; and sisters, Jenny Sanders, Barbara Adkins and Patty Madden.
She was a member of Ranger United Baptist Church for over fifty years. She loved singing in the choir and participating in church activities with her church family. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and she always said her favorite place to go was church where she found great peace and joy.
Surviving are her husband of fifteen years, Rocferd Adkins; son, Blane (Melissa) Adkins; daughters, Janice (Ray) Adkins, Phyllis Adkins, Sharon (Eddie) Brunty, Patsy Adkins, and like a daughter, Pat Smith; daughter-in-law, Joan Adkins; sisters, Donna Page and Ruth Adkins; grandchildren, Brandon (Jill) Adkins, Kendra (Wayne) Salmons, Elizabeth Willis, Ali (Kyle) Jones, Jeremy (Wendy) Brunty, Chad (Sonya) Brunty, Sheldon Adkins and Autumn (Shannon) Dolin; great-grandchildren, Gabe Salmons, Maddie and Jack Willis, Chase and Kate Jones, Emma and Owen Brunty, Ethan and Adriana Brunty and Braxton and Haven Dolin.
We already miss our mother, our sunshine, our inspiration, our precious gift from God. We are comforted in knowing we’ll all be together in Heaven someday.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at McGhee Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Sanders Cemetery, Ranger Ridge.
