May 5, 1923 — April 30, 2014

Mrs. Betty Foy, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Ormond Beach, FL on April 30, 2014 following a short illness.

Born on May 5, 1923 in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of Thomas Beavers and Lexye (Clifton) Reed. She earned her diploma at Iaeger High School where she was active in the French Club and as a varsity cheerleader. After graduation, she met Ray Foy from Davy, WV. They were married in 1941 and moved to Southern Pines, NC. There Ray trained as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and then served in the European Theatre of World War II. After the war ended, they lived in Logan, then relocated to Madison, WV and raised a family. Following the illness and death of Ray, Betty later married Robert Grant and eventually moved to Florida.

Betty was an active citizen and civic leader in Madison where she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Boone County Hospital, was a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and patron of the Garden Club. Mrs. Foy was also an ardent supporter of numerous civic and community organizations. She was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church, Madison Women’s Club, Madison PTA and the Boone County Young Republicans. She served as an Election Official at the Voting Polls and was elected and served with effectiveness as the President of the Madison City Council. She was active in numerous civic projects and social events that benefited the greater Madison area, notably the creation of a Community Center, hosting holiday dances and excursions to The Greenbrier. She won the Christmas Home Decorating Trophy multiple times and supported the Scott HS “Skyhawks” Band Parents and Athletics Boosters Clubs.

In Florida, Mrs. Foy continued her civic endeavors by serving several terms as the President of the Trails Homeowners Association.

She was a doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, voracious reader, world traveler, Civil War buff and terrific dancer. She lived a full and fruitful life leaving behind many lasting footprints and faithful friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband (and father of her children) Ray, husband Bob, brothers T. B. and Jim, and her sister Dorothy.
