Betty Gay Hunter, 74, of Danville, WV passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on September 11, 2014.
A West Virginia resident all her life, Betty loved and cared for her family at home. She also worshiped God at Danville First Baptist Church where she was a member for many years.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Layne; and brothers-in-law, Buddy Vance, Donald Podunavac and Harlin Barker.
She is survived by her immediate family; husband, Oliver Leon Hunter; her son, Michael (Sheryl) Hunter; daughters, Vicky (Rick) Bassham and Kristi (Richie) Casto; and step-son, James Leon Hunter . She is also survived by brothers, Richard Layne and Jimmy (Jean) Layne; sisters, Lillie Barker and Sue Podunavac both of Danville and Patsy (Freddie) Clay of Man; grandchildren, Jack Dempsey Jr. and Jason (Hope) Dempsey of Fort Knox, KY, Jennifer (Wes) Dempsey Meeteer of Beckley, Zachary (Ashlee) Bassham of Logan, Alex Bassham, Michael Hunter Jr., Joshua Hunter, Kaleigh Casto and Shelby Casto; great-grandchildren, Connor Dempsey, Kendall Dempsey and Collin Dempsey of Fort Knox, KY; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who loved and cared for her.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Mark Meeker officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
