Betty Lou Meadows, 87, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away February 4, 2014.
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty L. Meadows will be held at Handley Funeral Home, February 10, 2014. Rev. Jim Butcher of Madison Baptist Church will officiate. Following the funeral, burial proceedings will be held at Boone Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV.
Mrs. Meadows was born in Madison, WV, on August 22, 1926, to Charles and Mona Ballard. She graduated from Scott High School and attended Georgetown College in Kentucky thereafter.
She was united in marriage to James L. Meadows, May 17, 1947 in Danville, WV. He preceded her death March 14, 1998. They were married for 51 blissful years.
Mrs. Meadows retired from the West Virginia Department of Health where she worked in the accounting department.
Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren, writing letters and gardening; she was well-known for her garden club activities and prize winning floral arrangements.
Mrs. Meadows is survived by two siblings, C.D. (Charles) Ballard of Murray, Kentucky and Patricia A. Cannon of New Lexington, Ohio; four children, James L. Meadows II (Holly) of Washington, D.C., Cynthia Lou Grant (David) of Washington, D.C., Frances Ann Meadows of Tampa, Florida, and Cathy Lynn McCreary of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, James L. Meadows, III, Jason Meadows, Byron J. Grant, Anthony B. Cerullo, Jr., Kevin J. Hillmer, Nicholas A. McCreary, Catherine E. McCreary, Lauren E. Meadows, and Christian J. Meadows.
In addition to her husband, Betty is preceded in death by her parents Mona and Charles Dewey Ballard of Danville, WV, and brother Gene Ballard of Bell, WV.
The family will receive friends on Monday February 10, 2014 from 1:00 - 2:00PM at Handley Funeral Home 439 Phipps Ave, Danville, WV A funeral service celebrating her life will be held following the viewing at 2:00PM. Burial will follow the service at Boone
Memorial Park, Spruce Fork Road, Madison, WV.
