Betty Jo Mabe-Spencer, 69, of Danville, WV moved to her Heavenly home Sunday, July 12, 2015 at home surrounded by family and friends.
She was born December 30, 1945 at Charleston, daughter of the late Floyd and Clauda Miller Mabe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Boyd Mabe.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dale Spencer; three children, Charlie Spencer, Clayton (Tammy) Spencer and Rose (Larry) Napier all of Lowgap; three “special” grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jonathan) Harmon, Leighanne (Justin) Harmon and Lexi Sharp; two “special” great-grandchildren, Braxton Harmon and Carter Harmon and (expected to arrive in September) Jorja Harmon; one brother, Kenneth (Claudia) Mabe of Florida; one sister, Sylvia (the late Herman) Caudill of Madison; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by her beloved “Cali” her 21 year old calico cat.
Betty Jo was a member of Freedom Baptist Fellowship. She was a graduate of Marshall University and a teacher in the Boone County School system for nearly 41 years. She was a member of the Boone County Retired School Employees and the WVEA. She sold Avon for 24 years and was a member of TOPS #0204 for over 29 years. She was a gentle soul and a friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a wonderful mother and wife, the perfect example of Proverbs 31. She gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 11 and spent the rest of her life preparing to go and be with Him in Heaven. She taught her children about Jesus and was a witness to all who knew her including all of the doctors and nurses that have taken care of her during her illness. Even weak and frail, she still attended church whenever possible and would raise her hands in praise to the one she often referred to as her best friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone who ever had the privilege of knowing her. Earth’s loss is truly Heaven’s gain.
Special thanks to Boone Home Health Care and Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Jack Casey and Lyle McMicken officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
