Billy Ray Hunley 80 of Ottawa, WV stepped through Heaven’s gate on Sunday, August 12, 2018. He was born on July 19, 1938 in the town of Clothier, WV the only child of William Jennings and Rolla Arvilla Hunley. In 1958 he graduated from Scott High School where he played football. Billy Ray married Patricia Dolin (Patty Gae), on June 25, l966.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patty Gae; his two daughters: Marina Dawn Hunley-Graham and husband Thomas Graham of Cherokee, NC and Judith Rachelle Clayton and husband Casey Clayton of Timberlake, NC. He is also survived by two loving grandchildren: Morgan Jennings Hunley and Evelyn Kate Clayton. He is also survived by brother-in-law Earl Stanley Dolin and sister-in-law Karen Sue Dolin. His surviving nieces and nephews include Tammy and David Riggs and JW and Crystal Dolin.
At the age of 14 he began working at the IGA in Ottawa. Billy Ray served in the US Army from 1962-64, worked for Westmoreland Coal from 1965-1995, and Wind River Resources from 1995-1999.
Billy Ray was a member of the Clothier Presbyterian Church, a member of the UMWA from 1965 to present, member of the IOOF Boone Lodge No.170 since the age of 18 to present, member of Encampment No.56, and a member of Logan Lodge No 274. He also served on the Sr. Board for the Nutrition Center at Bias Branch.
Everyone who knew Bill knew of his love for Marshall University sports. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and always had a book or his Kindle in hand.
Services will be Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with two hours of visitation starting at 12:00 at Handley Funeral Home, in Danville, WV. Rev. Charles Ferguson, Rev. Gary Ferguson and Rev. Tom Bias will conduct the service with members of the Odd Fellow serving as pallbearers and providing the grave side rites. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Clothier Presbyterian, P. O. Box 173 Clothier, WV 25047 or to the charity of your choice. A time of fellowship will be provided at the Lodge fellowship hall following the services.
