Bobby Joyce Meadows

December 18, 1935 — September 15, 2018

Bobby Joyce Meadows, of Madison, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018 at Meadow Brook Assisted Living home with her daughters by her side. In addition to her husband, Harold Ray Meadows, Bobby was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Eula Cook; her brother, Dick Cook; and her sisters, Patricia (Kenneth) Eskins; Jo (Jack) Clouston; and Judy Cook.

Bobby is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Dennis) Tadlock of Madison, and Susan (Mike) Jarrell of South Charleston; brother, Jerry (Freda) Cook of Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cook of Maine; Mary Evelyn Abbott of Madison; and brother-in-law, Jim Doss of Bridgeport. Also surviving Bobby are her grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart. Amelia (Eric) Frye; Justin Tadlock; Juliana (Jake) Rollo; Kaitlyn Tadlock; and great-grandchildren Michael, Emma, and Aubrey, along with special friends Audra Bloom and Kalynn Barrett, will be able to remember Mamaw with much love.

Bobby was born on Dec. 18, 1935 in Wyoming County. For most of her childhood she lived at Marsh Fork and attended Marsh Fork schools. Her senior year her family moved to Barrett, where she graduated from Van High School.
Bobby and Harold owned and operated Corner Grocery and Madison Sports Center for many years. It was a favorite spot for customers to grab lunch, for the miners to pick up their “bucket junk,” and for their many friends to just sit and visit with Bobby and Harold.

Bobby was known for her dry sense of humor, her love for her family, her love of crossword puzzles, and especially for her love of her constant companion, Brown Dog. Brown Dog and Bobby were familiar faces in Madison, traveling around in her car together, the dog sitting on the console. Our idea of heaven for Bobby is for her to be reunited with Harold, all her family, Brown Dog, and a constant supply of Eugene Sheffer crossword puzzles from The Charleston Gazette. She would also have her trusty dictionary by her side.

The family would like to thank the staff of Meadow Brook for their exceptional care of Mom, and for helping us make it through this very difficult time.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, at 1:00, at Boone Memorial Park, Madison, with Rev. Dr. Frank Frye officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 17 from 6-8 p.m., at Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
