Carl R. Aikin, Sr. KB8EHJ
Carl Richard Aikin, Sr., 66, of Branchland, WV received the ultimate healing when he walked into his Savior’s embrace on July 23, 2016 at Emogene Jones Hospice House in Huntington after a long, courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer.
He was preceded in death by parents Earl and Jennie Aikin and by his beloved first wife Genevieve.
He is survived by Sara Bragg Aikin, his devoted wife of 16 years; sisters Dawn Aikin of South Point, OH, and Gail (John) Scruggs of Alameda, CA; sons Carl Jr. and Stacy (Becky) both of Huntington and Michael (Andi) of Branchland; daughter Melanie (Mike) Hays of Charleston; and six grandchildren.
Carl was born in Lockport, NY, but spent his growing-up years in Arlington, VA. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After marriage, he relocated to West Virginia and worked as a well tender for Columbia Gas until his retirement. He was an avid amateur radio operator and a member of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Association (TARA) and the American Radio Relay League (ARAL).
Visitation is scheduled at Handley Funeral Home in Hamlin from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, with services officiated by Pastor Lonnie Wilson at the Lincoln Church of God in West Hamlin at 2 p.m. on July 27. Interment will be in the Slone-Triplett Cemetery at Pleasant View.
