Carol Anne Markins, 85, of Ravenswood, West Virginia passed away Monday April 15th, 2024, in Parkersburg West Virginia following a sudden illness with her family by her side.
Carol was born August 20, 1938, in Circleville Ohio to Alva and Orpha (Conaway) Markins. Carol is survived by her brother Paul Edward Markins of Nashville, TN and sister Linda Kay (Markins) Basham of Ravenswood, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents Alva and Orpha (Conaway) Markins, her sister Norma “Kathryn” (Markins) Workman and brothers Donald Gene and Billy Lee Markins.
She was a Van High School graduate, class of 1956. Right after graduation she went to Kansas City to pursue airline ticket agent training and after her training was complete, she went to Washington DC and started her career as an executive assistant. She retired after 47 years as an executive assistant and moved back to West Virginia.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, Carol was an avid reader and crafter with a passion for a good cup of hot tea and a small can of Pepsi. Carol also loved to travel and nearly accomplished her goal of visiting all 50 states.
While Carol didn’t have children of her own, she loved and adored her nearly 100 nieces and nephews. She never forgot a birthday and talked about every one of them.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation and service on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at Handley’s funeral home in Danville, WV. Visitation is at 1pm and services will begin at 2pm with Pastor Chip Frame officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Madison, WV.
