Carolyn Kirby Thompson of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, after an extended illness. Carolyn was born on March 18, 1944, in Madison, WV and was the daughter of the late Price and Helen Kirby.
Carolyn was a graduate of Scott High School and Southern WV Community College. She worked many years as a pharmacy technician for Rite Aid and Medicap Pharmacy in Danville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Price and Helen Kirby, her infant children, Vanessa Kay Thompson and Clifford Lowell Thompson and her nephew Markie Wayne Bias.
She is survived by her sisters, Sandra Dishman, Pauline Linville, Lawanda Estep and Annette Thompson; her nieces and nephew, Terani Mullins, Kerna Halstead, Paula Miller, Tamara Akers and Thomas Dishman II; great-nieces and nephews, Keirstin Akers, McKinley Gilkerson, Matthew Mullins, Travis Kirby, Brent Akers, Mason Akers, Seth Mullins and Anthony Halstead; great-great nieces and nephew, Hadley Gilkerson, Madelyn Mullins, Ellie Akers and Gatlin Gilkerson.
Carolyn had a generous heart, a kind soul and an endless devotion to her family.
She always made holidays and birthdays special to her family with her beautiful decorations, signed cards and phone calls.
The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation of thanks to the entire staff of Hillcrest Healthcare Center for helping to care for Carolyn during her illness.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with Harley Egnor officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
