Charles Edward Lucas

April 2, 1930 — June 9, 2015

Charles Edward Lucas, 85, of Madison, WV passed away on June 9, 2015 at home after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on May 7, 2015.

He was born April 2, 1930 to his parents Roosevelt and Mae Lucas of Greenview. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Carmel; sisters, Peggy, Lena “Tootsie” and Dorothy.

He was a member of Madison Baptist Church, Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 being a Korean War Veteran, Odell Lodge 115, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine Patrol. He retired from CSX Railroad as a Conductor with 42 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judy Eloise Lucas; son, Michael Lucas of Madison; daughter, Melinda Diamond of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, Michael, Matt and Marc; step-children, Susan Ballard Shreve and Michael Ballard both of Madison; brother, Bobby (Evelyn) Lucas of Lakeland, Florida; sisters, Ella Mae (Dennie) Tucker of Buffalo and Rosalee “Bunny” (Eddie) Wheatley of Greenview; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Dr. Ron Stollings, Dr. Steven Matulis and Dr. Amanda Zarowitz, Hospice Care of Madison, especially Sallie and Missy for their care and support during this difficult time and sister-in-law Vernia Bell Pritchard for her undivided love and support through the many years.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastors Jim Butcher and Garry Bowman officiating. At his request VFW members will be his pallbearers. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville with Military Graveside Rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the funeral home.
