Charlotte Fulton Samples, 82, passed away suddenly on February 18, 2015 after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Ray; one child, Mark Alan; her sister, Phyllis; two grandchildren, Bobby and Brittany Samples of Kentucky; her beloved aunt, Irene Butcher of Washington, DC; and many cousins. She was also mother of Robert Brett, deceased in 2007.
Charlotte was born in Madison, WV on August 19, 1932 to Charles F. and Eunice Fulton and grew up in Charleston. She graduated from Charleston High School in 1950 and attended West Virginia State College where she studied Art.
After graduating High School, Charlotte worked at the C&P Telephone Company before marrying Robert Ray Samples of Charleston in 1953. Last month they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
In 1966, her family moved to Alexandria, VA where she worked for a law firm for many years. Her husband’s government service took them to Germany where they lived for six years. During this time, she worked for the Federal Government and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Upon Robert’s retirement in September 1992, they returned to Charleston to live.
Charlotte was an accomplished artist who won several awards for her work. She also participated in choral groups, the most notable of which was the German American Choir of Frankfurt Germany. She had a lifelong love of classical music, was a member of the Charleston Calligraphers Guild and read extensively.
Charlotte was a devout Christian who attended church at the Bible Center of Charleston. Her faith in Christ gave rise to love for others and both were animated and strengthened by the hope she had in Christ.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 in Boone Memorial Park, Madison, WV.
