Clyde Lambert Chaffin, Jr. 69 of Sod WV passed away peacefully on April 15, 2021 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Clyde is survived by his only son, Josh of Madison, WV; sisters; Brenda (Rex) Pauley of Sod, WV and Alana (Phillip) Snead of Campbells Creek, WV; many nieces and nephew, a special great-great nephew, Wyatt.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. Chaffin and Hazel Welch; his step-father, Nobel Dickens; and his niece Rexanna Fitswater (Pauley).
Clyde entered the U.S. Navy in 1969 and served honorably in Vietnam. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Moose Lodge for many years.
Clyde loved coal mining. He was a coal operator and coal miner for many years, working for Westmoreland and Peabody Coal. He was injured in the mines in 1988 and went on to open his own business, The 19th Hole Grill and Bar where he spent 10 years making many friends and memories. He retired in 2010 and moved to “the farm” in Lincoln county. He truly enjoyed his 12 years there. Clyde was an avid golfer, loved to travel, loved having a drink with his friends, was a self-proclaimed lawn mowing expert, and loved Alabama football. Clyde was a friend to many and a hero to at least one. He will be dearly missed by all who know him.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Visitation for family with began at 12:30 and friends are welcome at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow on the farm in Lincoln County. Military graveside rites will be performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV. Where Clyde will join his best friend, his dog, Buster as their journey ended together.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be observed, with mask and social distancing encouraged.
