Cody Phillip Smith

Cody Phillip Smith, 15, of Missouri Fork Road, Hewett, WV passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. He was born November 20, 2008 to Sarah Bishop and Jason Smith.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sarah Bishop; and by his paternal grandmother Catherine Smith.

Cody was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. He was excited about starting Scott High School this fall.

Left to cherish his memory are his maternal grandparents who were in the adoption process, Doran Bishop Jr. and Jacqueline Bishop of Hewett; father, Jason Smith; paternal grandfather, Ned Smith of Hewett; brothers, Lief Bishop of Jeffrey, Jason Elkins (Hannah) of Chatteroy, Jaxon Cook of Hewett, and Ethan Smith of Kentucky; sisters, Leila Elkins of Hewett and Kiara Smith of Kentucky; nieces, Lydia Bays of Hewett; special great aunt and uncle, Tim and Lorene Light of Ottawa; aunts, Susie Tompkins (Michael) of Hewett, Grace Conley of Hewett, Diane Smith (Mike) of Jeffrey; uncles, Edmond Lee Adkins of Hewett, Loran E “Ned” Bishop (Tracy) of Clothier; a host of family, cousins and friends; and his beloved dog, Oscar.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Ginger Dials officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison, WV.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
