GAP MILLS, WV --- Coolidge Van Vert Stover, age 90 of Gap Mills, WV, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV. Born December 24, 1927 at Ameagle, WV, he was the son of the late Samp and Dona Bailey Stover. Coolidge was a retired coal miner. He worked most of his career for Peabody and Eastern Coal Companies. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He had served for 25 years as President of the Local UMWA #9177 Union. He had served on the Moncove Lake Foundation Board. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts Troop #93. Coolidge was also a member of the Monroe County Historical Society and a member of the Gordon Union Church at Gordon, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Lee Stover; and his paternal grandparents, who helped raise him, Elijah and Sues Stover. Survivors include, his wife Shelia Stover of Gap Mills, WV; one step-daughter, Melody Daniel and husband Mark of Harper, WV; one brother, Dunrith Vest of Indiana; one sister, Shirley Eststep and husband Ronald of Dorothy, WV; one granddaughter, Mallory Daniel of Harper, WV; two special cousins, Sammy and Donald Stover of Mansfield, OH, special nephew; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held under the direction of Handley Funeral Home of Danville, WV, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 17, 2018 at the Gordon Union Church at Gordon, WV with Rev. Phil Rowe and Pastor Matt Joner officiating. Burial will follow with Military Graveside Rites in Memory Gardens at Low Gap, WV. Friends may call Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church.
