Dail France Sergent, 87, of Hamlin, WV went to be with the Lord, Sunday January 25, 2015. He was born at his home on Coon Creek to the late Ward Sergent and Margie Hall Sergent. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by all of his siblings, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army Air Corps transport command. After serving his country, he married his sweetheart Bonnie J. Musser. They were married 64 years and together raised three children; Deborah (John) Smith, Gregory (Sheila) Sergent, and Glenn Sergent, all of Hamlin, WV. He has five grandsons, and one granddaughter; three great grandsons and three great granddaughters.
He retired from Union Carbide Chemical Co. in 1987. He was a faithful member of Harveys Creek United Baptist Church prior to his illness. He was a quiet man, who loved his family. He lived his life with a deep sense of Christian Faith. He was our rock and will be sorely missed. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all his caregivers. Especially his son Glenn, Hospice of Huntington and Chris Byrd.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday January 28, 2015 at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, WV with Rev. Terry Sponaugle and Rev. Robert Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Harveys Creek Cemetery, Hamlin, WV where there will be a military graveside service conducted. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Huntington in lieu of flowers.
