Danny V. Elkins, 62, of James Creek, WV went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 9, 2018 after a long courageous battle with myositis disease. He was born April 19, 1955 and lived in Wharton, WV. He was a retired Fireboss/Shot Firer with 35 years of service to Peabody Coal Company and a 35 year veteran member of the UMWA Local 1503.
He was preceded in death by father, Earnest Elkins and mother, Gaye Charcandy; and brother, Earnest Lester Elkins.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Loretta Elkins; daughter, Christie (Rick) Cregger; son, Timothy (Pamela) Elkins; and grandchildren, Hunter Cregger, LaChrista Cregger and Annabelle Elkins. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Kenny and Rose Elkins of St. Louis, MO, David and Mary Elkins of Cleveland, Delbert and Rhonda Elkins of Conway, SC, Ann and Jack Turley, Patty and Howard Mooney and Mary Sue Elkins all of Ashford.
Danny loved many things, his wife, his children and his grandchildren but most of all his love for God was the greatest.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Shelia Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
