Darrell Lee Spurlock, 80, of Danville, lost his battle with cancer March 23, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Neva and son-in-law Greg Pratt; his parents, Bruce and Elvetta Spurlock of Drawdy; and two brothers Denzil of Leet and Denver of Drawdy.
Darrell was born January 25, 1934 in Leet of Lincoln County. His interests in life were the hunting seasons of the West Virginia hills from digging roots to game hunting.
His working life began early cutting timber with a cross-cut saw taller than he was. He later worked for Sam Beaver’s sawmill at Lick Creek; then Carolina Lumber Company in Danville. The Mine Ventilation at Rock Creek was next for several years; but for the rest of his life he was known for his excellence in carpentry at Danville Lumber Company in Danville.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta of 59 years; one daughter, Carolyn and Roger Totten of Indiana; two sons, Michael and Terry of Danville; ten grandchildren, Nicki, Lana, Julie, Christopher, Ricky, Tony, Sherri, Terri, Johnathan and Jarred; and several great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by 14 sibblings and their spouses: sisters, Esta and Reldo Miller, Nadine Mckinney, Juanita and Harrison Brown, Linda Clay, Brenda and Ray Cook; brothers, Eugene and Joyce, Harold and Linda, Sherrill, Lanny, Wayne and Sue, Gilbert and Ruth, Jerry and Ruby, Jackie, Ricky and Tami; and one uncle, Theron Linville of Huntington.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastor John Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
