Darren R. Adkins, age 50, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at his home in Barboursville, WV.
He was a loving son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend to many. Darren was well-educated, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Youngstown State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He also earned his Master’s degree in Education from Cleveland State University and held certificates in Educational Technology and Online Instruction from Liberty University. Darren was fluent in English, German, and Spanish, and was always ready to share his love of the German language and culture with his nieces and nephews. Darren previously worked as a teacher in Ohio and Virginia, and most recently worked for the State of West Virginia at the Cabell County Human Services Department. Darren was also a beloved pet-dad to dogs Patches & Rugger and enjoyed traveling with them while visiting family in Ohio.
Darren was proceeded in death by his parents, Jerry and Delphia Adkins, and siblings Mark and Rachael Adkins.
He is survived by his brothers, Greg (Kim) Adkins and Jason Adkins; uncle to Ashley (Parker) Mumaw, Megan Adkins, Alex Adkins, Cameron Adkins and Logan Adkins; great-uncle to Sophia, Henry, Maxwell, August, and Ivy; nephew to Allen (Stephanie) Adkins, Golden (Wampy) Adkins, Dessie Adkins and Jean Adkins; and by countless cousins and friends.
There will be a celebration of life luncheon on Saturday, April 26th at the Salt Rock Senior Center, 5490 State Hwy 10, Salt Rock WV 2559, from 2 – 4 PM. Afterwards, his ashes will be laid to rest next to his mother and father at the Payton Cemetery on 10 Mile Creek Rd in Branchland, WV.
