David Lee Fortney

David Lee Fortney, 71, of Madison, WV was born November 22, 1952 and passed away December 22, 2023. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Ray “Banjo” Fortney; his brothers Ray Jr., James, and Thomas Fortney; and sister Margaret Fortney-Chapman.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Fortney; his son, Jonathan Fortney; and his daughter-in-law Terri Fortney.

He was a coal miner who then went on to open his own transmission business in 1974 and retired after 40 years.  He was a mechanical genius who could fix or build anything.  He loved hunting, fishing and anything outdoors.  He also loved his camp on the Elk River which he built by hand himself.  He cared about his dear friends very much.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 26 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with visitation one hour prior to the service.
