Dennis Leo Cook, 78, surrounded by family and friends, died November 1, 2013 at CAMC Memorial after a sudden illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wilma Jewell Walker-Cook.
He was a retired coal miner from Patriot Coal after 25 years and a member of UMWA. He was also a retired school bus driver after nine years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoorsman. If he wasn’t sitting in his swing on the back porch, you would find him hunting, fishing, berry picking or ginsenging. He was a master carpenter who could build anything.
He is survived by his daughters of Bandytown, Judy A. Cook and Sherri L. Hayes, husband Franklin Hayes Jr. and grandson Cody J. Hayes; his sister, Geneva Bailey of Lowell; brother, Bobby Cook and wife Becky of Beckley; and sister, Wilma Jean Jarrell and husband Ed of Hurricane; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to greatly thank Dr. Shadi, Dr. Grey, Dr. Channa, Dr. Adongay and Dr. Youcab, the nurses of SICU and MICU especially Travis and Samantha for their tireless efforts to give us the last precious moments we were given.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Martha Freewill Baptist Church, Bandytown with Chip Frame officiating. Burial will be in Mid-Ferrell Cemetery, Bandytown.
