Donald Lee Elam, 75, of Wharton, WV departed this life on November 8, 2023 and gained his place in Heaven. He was the son of Enos James and Edaith Barker Elam.
Donald was a member of the Greenwood Church of God for over 48 years and served as the pastor for the last 36 years. He retired after working over 30 years as an Electrician/Mechanic in the coal mines. He loved woodworking and building things like ships or furniture. Spending time with his family was very important to him. Taking his boat out on the lake was a favorite activity he enjoyed with his family. He liked to cook Sunday dinner and have everyone over.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda Kay McCarty Elam to whom he has been married to over 55 years; his children, Tasha Kay Elam, Donald Lee Elam, II (Sami Jo), and James Dee Elam (Betty); his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, KaLea Justice (Josh), Donald Elam (Johnathan), Christopher Elam (Dymond), Heather Gladson (Eric), Emily Elam, and James Elam II; his great-grandchildren, Lillie Justice, Colt Justice, Madisson Deitz, Hannah Gladson, Noah Gladson, Elijah Gladson and Donald Elam (DJ) who will be arriving in March 2024. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Elam; and sisters, Joelen Camacho, Darlene Adams, and Christene Pennington; a special niece, Kimberly; and former daughters-in-law, Patti Tomblin and Michelle Elam.
He will be missed terribly by his old faithful companion Luke.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the Greenwood Church of God, 339 Greenwood Circle, Wharton, WV 25208.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 12 at Greenwood Church of God, Greenwood, WV with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is assisting the family.
