Donald Eugene Christian, 81, of Thomasville, North Carolina, passed away August 24, 2017 peacefully surrounded by family.
Donald was born in Ikes Fork, West Virginia on December 10, 1935, son of Herbert Christian and Stella Rife.
Donald was married to Phyllis Stacy Christian on August 14, 1962. They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Donald honorably served six years in the United States Army. He served time in Europe as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He ended his military career successfully as a Sergeant. His drive and determination continued to show in his career at Hobet Mining and Construction. Retiring after 30 years as a notable supervisor, he worked his way to the top.
Donald enjoyed life after retirement. He moved to North Carolina in 2007 to be close to his family. He loved body building, fishing, guns, and almost all sports. Listening to his vast collection of records was a favorite past time. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather he mostly adored spending time with loved ones.
Donald is survived by his wife, Phyllis Christian; his daughter, Teresa Adams; his granddaughter, Heather McDowell and husband Rusty; his great grandson, Jaxon McDowell; and special friends, the Noahs, Scotty, Kim, Kristian, and Zachary; as well as many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Christian and Stella Rife; his children, Mark Christian and Connie Christian; his son in law, Michael Adams; and his granddaughter, Brittney Christian.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 27 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
