Douglas Dale Ramey

September 29, 1948 — June 17, 2024

Douglas Dale Ramey, 75, with his crops laid by and his work here done, has gone home to hear the Lord say “well done” on June 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Friday, June 21, 2024, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home in West Hamlin, WV, with Pastor Elder Tim Davis and Elder Frankie Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Branchland, WV.

He was born September 29,1948 at West Hamlin, WV.  Doug wore several hats during his life. He was a decorated U.S. Vietnam Army Veteran, rising to the rank of Sargent in the 1st Calvary Division. He was a retired general contractor and was the proud owner of both Liberty Construction and Doug’s Custom Homes. However, his calling to the ministry was his most important occupation. He served as Pastor at the Upper Ten Mile United Baptist Church for over 20 years. During this time, he taught Sunday School, was an instrumental part of the church choir, and led many revivals in the surrounding communities. Prior to his time as Pastor, he was part of a local gospel group that sang at many churches, Brothers in Christ.

Doug was the son of the late Clifford and Mary (Lambert) Ramey. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life for 43 years, his wife Bertha. In addition, he was preceded in death by a brother and his spouse, Clifford (Kathy) Ramey, Jr; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Janie (Jessie) Owens, Hattie Ann (Harold) Connors, and Otto Cyfers. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Doug (Darla) Ramey of Huntington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lala (Rick) Wiley of West Hamlin and Greta (Okey) Noe of Morgantown; three granddaughters, Jessica (Nathan) Springle, Jenna Noe, and Sophie Noe; and three grandsons, Joshua Kain Ramey, Adam Wiley, and Landon Wiley. In addition, he was survived by two brothers, William (Erica) Ramey of Jacksonville, FL and Earl (Sandy) Ramey of West Hamlin; three sisters, Freda (Jack) Maynard of Wayne, Linda (Frankie) Frye of Ranger, and Sherry (Greg) Miller of Midkiff; and a special brother-in-law Taylor (Annabel) Cyfers of Ranger. The family would like to thank his primary care provider, Kimberly Lucas Day, for the loving medical care she provided during his final years. Also, the family would like to thank all the supportive medical care he received, especially the VA of Huntington, home health provider Kindred/CenterWell, and Hospice of Huntington. He is also survived by a host of dear family and friends with whom he will be greatly missed.

Doug will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and dependable friend, and most importantly, a Christian. He loved to talk about the Lord and his grandchildren. He could play any musical instrument with a string and loved to play and sing bluegrass music to praise the Lord.
