Earl Jay Peters, 51, of Wharton, WV passed away from congestive heart failure on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at CAMC Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
He was born December 6, 1971, to Jay Max and Sherry Peters of Wharton, WV.
He was preceded in death by his father Jay Max Peters; his maternal grandparents Earl “Pete” Morrison and Helen Morrison; his paternal grandparents, Arnett and Grace Peters.
He is survived by his mother and biggest supporter, Sherry Peters; his two children, Kayla Peters and Jessica Peters (Adam McClung); his grandchildren, Evan and Jaxon Price, Addyson, Klaiton, and Anndon Wilson; sister, Tracy (Brent) Price, niece Courtney Price (Tyler); and sister Angel Peters (Brad Davis) and nephew Kyle Kenney, and niece Cary Hofbauer; stepbrother, Sean Bennet, and stepsister Brandi Harvey.
Earl was a coal miner for most of his life until he was disabled. He was a member of Wharton Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years; he was only 13 years old when he joined. He loved to spend time in the mountains hunting, fishing, or just simply go for a ride. He always had a smile on his face and could always keep you laughing. He was always willing to help out when needed.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the healthcare workers who took part in caring for him during his illness.
Service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 27 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Scotty Elswick officiating. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. until service time.
