Earl Wright, 74, of Wharton, WV, passed away January 8, 2025 at Thomas Memorial Hospital ICU in South Charleston, WV.
He was born in Wharton, WV to the late Calvin Morton Wright and Ruby Stooksbury Wright. During his childhood, he played with many children from Flat Top Camp. He attended school at Wharton Grade and Junior High Schools and graduated from Van High School in 1969. After graduation he went with his sister to Faith, NC, where he worked as an electrician helper at Walker Homes building modular homes. He returned to Wharton in 1970 and went to work for Eastern Associated Coal Company's Lightfoot mine and later at Peabody Coal Company's Rivers Edge Mine. He was a member of UMWA Local Union 781. He retired as a disabled coal miner in 2005.
Earl was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Earl Wright, whom he loved and missed deeply, two brothers, Kenneth Ray Wright and Ronald Wright, and sister, Patricia Wright Morgan.
He is survived by one brother, Billy Joe Wright (Ruth) of Melbourne, Fla; three sisters, Linda Wright Farley (Larry) of Faith, NC, who were Earl's caretakers and dearly loved him, Joan Wright Noble of Salisbury, NC and Priscilla Wright McCombs of Salisbury, NC; "Itty" his faithful friend; and Jason Wright of Dallas, Texas. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his nephews and nieces and many cousins.
In the mist of his darkest days, he gave his life to the Lord lead by Pastor Tom Price with the Prayer of Salvation and Found the Peace he needed and expressed it to everyone he met thereafter. Praise God, he now lives in Heaven with his Savior.
The family would like to thank those that helped care for Earl: Tammy and Tina, Dr. William Harris and the CAMC staff, Dr. William Wade and the staff at WVU Thomas Memorial Hospital ICU.
