Ernestine “Tina” Manns, 95 years old, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2024. She was born in Pine Creek, WV, to the late Joel and Winnie Duty Crum. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winnie and Joel Crum, husband, Herman Manns, daughter Charlotte Jo Manns Kinser, son-in-law Frederick Kinser, grandson Bradley Kinser, brother Willis Crum, sister-in-law Alma Crum, nephew Danny Crum, niece Janet Crum Church, and her precious infant babies: Bradford Manns, Deanna Manns, Patricia Manns, and David Manns.
Tina is survived by daughters Wilma (Tony) Clark Alkol, WV, and Rhonda (Doug) Roberts Foster, WV, by her niece, who is like a daughter, Wendy (Ron) Hepler, and her nephew, who is like a son, Larry (Robin) Crum, She also is survived by her grandchildren, Chad Kinser of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Lezlie (Ryan) Hill of South Charleston, WV, BT (Stacia) Roberts of Foster, WV, Mikayla (Victoria) Roberts of St. Albans, WV, Amanda Clark of St. Albans, WV, Jordan (Laura) Clark of South Charleston, WV, , and her precious great grandchildren Rylie Hill, Levi Hill, Anderson Roberts, Asher Roberts, and Eloise “Ellie” Clark. Also surviving are nephews who are considered grandsons, Asher Hepler, Derrick Hepler, and Ryan Crum. Also surviving are Donna Barker, niece, great nephew Ronnie (Ashley) Hepler, great niece Brianna Hepler, great niece Sherry Crum Piercy, adopted daughter Pam (Ray) Gillenwater, adopted granddaughter, Amy (BJ) Sontag , adopted great granddaughter Christina Sontag, and adopted great granddaughter Dylann Perchau, as well as many great nieces, great nephews and friends who were family.
Tina was a member of the Madison Baptist Church. She graduated from Logan High School and Morris Harvey nursing school. She was a navy wife of over twenty years following Herman to many duty stations and destinations, meeting many friends who became family. She was a nurse in Los Angeles California in the 1960’s where she cared for Michael Landon, and met Norman Rockwell. Later she moved back to WV to work as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor, helping establish the original drug awareness and prevention programs in Logan County schools. She retired at 87 ½ years of age as Boone County Coordinator, for the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program, working with battered women. Tina was instrumental in getting laws written and changed in order to protect many women. She was honored throughout her career by the WV Legislature and the inspiration for the Marshall University Rural Woman of the Year award, becoming it’s first recipient. Tina never knew a stranger and helped people from all walks of life, whether it be a famous actor, or town drunk, she treated them all respectfully and with compassion. She has left a legacy for her family to be the best servants they can be and to make their community, and world a better place.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all who cared for her throughout the years, The Staff of Boone Memorial and Boone Rehab, especially her “boyfriend” and personal trainer, Nick Shreve, Dignity Hospice and Home Care, especially Thomas and Emilia, Thomas Memorial Hospital, The Stirlene Wobbe Armstrong Hospice House, especially Leah Fultz, Madison Baptist Church, pastor Jim Butcher, and many friends and coworkers for the visits, love and encouraging messages and food.
Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Handley Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Butcher officiating. Graveside will be at Highland Memory Garden, Logan, WV. Visitation 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family request you consider donations to Madison Baptist Food Pantry, YWCA Resolve Family Abuse program or your local Hospice in memory of Tina.
