Edgar Harold Miller, Sr., 74, of Morrisvale departed this earthly world, peacefully, Friday April 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by family after a long illness.
He was known to everyone as “Big Ed” throughout his lifetime. He graduated from Scott High School in 1964 and left for Indiana to start his place in the workforce. He married his high school sweetheart, Hilda Stone on July 12, 1965. They lived in Indiana, Illinois and Canton, Ohio before returning home to West Virginia. He took a position with Hobet Mining in Julian for 25 years. He built his own home on Dog Hollow Road where he raised two sons. He retired in 2002 and enjoyed a life and passion of hunting, fishing, four wheeling, flea marketing, buying and selling antiques. He fulfilled many roles in life: Deacon, member of Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church, President of the UMWA District 17, Local 2286, youth leader, community volunteer, but his most important role was being “Papaw Big Ed.” He loved to cook big meals and helped everyone in need. His smile, laughter, jokes and testimonies will be remembered by all those he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar “Rabbit” and Estella “Peggy” Miller; and brothers, Kenneth Bradshaw and Jim Bradshaw.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Faye Stone Miller; his sons, Jeffrey (Denise) Miller of Morrisvale, WV and Eddie (Christy) Miller of Morrisvale; brothers, Bill (Barbara) Miller of Madison and Mike (Gloria) Miller of Winfield, WV; sisters, Brenda Kaye Mullens of Hurricane, WV, Barbara (Ray) Jewett of Madison, WV and Cindy (Joe) Anthony of Dobra, WV; sister-in-law, Nancy Bradshaw of Cottondale, Florida; grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen (Kaleigh) Miller, Nathanael Miller and Nicholas Miller; great-grandchildren, Kynzleigh Miller and Kynadee Miller; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 30 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison.
