Edward Eugene Price

January 28, 1951 — April 29, 2017

Edward Eugene Price (often affectionately referred to as Eddie) was born January 28, 1951 to the late Carl Edward Price and Rinda Elaine Price. He passed away peacefully on April 29, 2017 after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease. Edward carried a gentle kind spirit from cradle to grave.
Eddie’s Christian journey began at an early age attending Saint Paul AME Church in Madison WV. He was a 1968 graduate of Scott High School. He began his working career as a construction worker in the Pittsburgh area and later relocated to Washington, DC where he became a foreman in the stone construction industry.
Eddie loved all types of sports and was an avid Washington Redskins Fan. During his spare time, he enjoyed running, jogging and walking the streets of the Madison Area. Residents of the Madison area knew him as the “running man” even if they did not know him by name. He enjoyed reading the paper daily and often reminded his nieces and nephews that “readers are leaders”
In the mid 70’s he was owner of the Lo Rider’s Pub where everyone was welcome and enjoyed the company of others. Eddie never met a stranger and enjoyed the art of conversation with children as well as adults. Our younger generation all fondly knew him as the “cool” uncle, cousin or friend who always took time to invest and support their activities and their dreams. His true character shined through whether he was interacting with family or strangers.
After the death of his father in 1988, Eddie returned to Boone County to be closer to his mother where he lovingly assisted her through this difficult transition. He later pursued a career at the South Charleston Stamping Plant where he was a 20-year employee as a section leader in the quality control department. This experience allowed him to travel to various states where he acted as an advocate to improve processes and quality on the production lines.
After a reduction in the work force at the plant, Eddie chose to follow his passion to the medical field by studying respiratory therapy at the Carver Career and Technical Center where he graduated in 2009 with honors and was President of his class.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Eva Price and his maternal grandparents Edgar and Nellie Price and his father Carl Edward Price. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother Rinda Elaine Price of Madison, WV; son Shawn Edward Price, and three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brandon and Braylon all of Saint Albans, WV. His brothers Leslie Price of Madison WV and Warren (Sandra) of Cross Lanes, WV; sisters Marion (Edward) Campbell of Charleston, SC and Marzetta (Gregory) Hamilton of Manassas, VA, two aunts, Lucy Smoot of Madison, WV and Nora Coles of Columbus OH, one uncle, Ronald Smoot of Cross Lanes, WV, eleven nephews and nieces and a host of cousins and friends. He enjoyed the company and loving care of his caregiver Kathy Bailey and the staff of Mingo Wayne Home Health and the Boone County Community Action Organization as well as his side-kicks, brother, Warren and cousin, Randall who all stood tirelessly by his side until he passed. A special thanks to Willie Patton and all the numerous friends who visited faithfully to support him.
Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is serving the Price family. Reverend Michael Pollard will officiate the service which will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017. The family will receive visitors from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Price Family Cemetery at South Madison, WV.
