Emmett G. Jeffrey, born March 7, 1930 went home to be with the Lord July 4, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Kell and Nellie (Nichols) Jeffrey, his wife and soul mate Doris, sisters; Adolphine Muncy, Doris Gibson, Delsie Ball and a brother Everett “Pluti” Jeffrey.
Emmett worked both as a coal miner and truck driver. He retired from the Lynn Coal Company in 1986. He spent his retirement growing friendships in the Hewett’s Creek area. Never meeting a stranger, or neglecting a favor, Emmett remembered his friends fondly.
He is survived by son Cecil C. (Karen) Dolin of Hurricane, WV, daughters; Susan (Real) Stokley of Grand Island, NE, and Kim Jeffrey Hawks of Hewett, grandchildren; Kelli (Kyle) Pratt of High Point, NC, Joshua (Bobbi) Jeffrey of Charleston, WV, Cassie (Terry) Loftis of Hewett, Joe (Melissa) Stokley of NE, and Kenneth and Steven King of Florida, great grandchildren whom he loved and adored Madi, Elijah, Ellie and Emmett; brothers; Gene “Oatbox” (Joyce) Jeffrey,and Edward "Mack" (Mary) Jeffrey, sisters; Dessie McDonald and Della (Glenn) McMillian.
We want to say a special Thank You to Rev. Roger McCauley for always being there for Emmett when he needed him. Also, thank you to Terry Loftis and Johnny Blackburn for being the very best friends a lonely old man could ask for.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
