Evelyn McColgan
March 10, 1927 — April 7, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we say our Earthly goodbyes to our beloved mother and grandmother, Evelyn McColgan, 89, of Branchland, WV. She departed this life to rest in Abraham's bosom on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
She was born on March 10, 1927 to the late William and Mary Chandler Miller. She was also preceded in death by her precious daughter Anita Dial, and loving husband Rex McColgan. She was a sister to Tom, Henry, Hattie, Ethel, Esta, and Ermal, all which preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory include sons: Rexall (Joy) McColgan, Lyndon (Jeanette) McColgan; daughter, Drema (Mont) Priestley; grandchildren, Chip Dial, Rachel Dial, Crystal (Scotty) Smith, George (Sarah) McColgan, Kristen (Jeff) McColgan, Ryan (Julie) Nelson, Austin Robinette, and Zachary McColgan; great-grandchildren, Olivia Smith and Aunesty McColgan. She also leaves behind a host of friends, nieces, nephews, as well as a very special sister-in-law, Mary Rose Marcum.
Evelyn was a founding member of the Wings of Peace gospel group. She was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church and had many fond memories of rejoicing and singing there. She was very devoted to her family and our hearts swell with so many special memories. We would like to thank those who provided compassion, support, and care throughout her illness.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2016 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV with Greg Dial, Alan Frye, and Herb Nida officiating. Burial will follow at Dial Cemetery, Branchland, WV. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
II Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.
