Evert Lee Pritchard, 92, of Cox’s Fork, Danville, WV passed away at home Friday, April 1, 2022.
He was born on June 2, 1929 to Roma “Hub” and Shirley Pauley Pritchard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Howard Pritchard; sister Edith Pritchard Jarrell; father and mother-in-law George and Alma Sansom; son-in-law Butch Black; and his best friends Garmen and Tene Rasnake.
On January 11, 1958 he married the love of his life Nellie Sansom Pritchard. They have shared 64 years of marriage and he loved her dearly. He is survived by their four children Leroy Pritchard and his wife Denise of Cox’s Fork, Patricia Hager and her husband Raymond of Ridgeville, South Carolina, Karen Black of Jeffrey and Corey Pritchard and his wife Paula of Lexington, KY. He was a proud Papaw to Kim Pritchard Holstein and her husband Melvin, Michael Pritchard, Jessica Hager Blakesley and her husband Chance, Josie Scragg Cooper and her husband Phillip, Stephanie Hager Frasier and her husband Michael, Jasmine Scragg Kesterson and her husband Anthony, and Derby and Keenlynn Pritchard. He was known as Ampawl to his great grandchildren Paityn Pritchard, Mason Proveaux, Warren and Everlynn Frasier, Tristian Holstein, Liliana Kesterson, Hope and Faith Cooper and Lillyana Blakesley. He is also survived by his brother Bernard Pritchard and Gloria Dean Stowers both of Cox’s Fork along with a host of nephews and nieces.
Evert was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison, WV. In his earlier years he was a coal miner and part of the demolition crew for roadwork in Virginia and West Virginia. He later made his career as a mechanic and retired from the Boone County Schools bus garage. Evert was a Christian man and could quote the bible from front to back. He was a member of the Cox’s Fork Freewill Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, a collector of many things, a good friend and neighbor. He loved his family more than anything and having them together was his favorite day.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with David Cyfers officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road, Danville, WV. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 4 at the funeral home.
