Frances Ann Hess Humphreys, 86, of Clendenin passed away in St. Francis Hospital on March 29, 2014 due to complications following a broken hip. Frances was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Clendenin, and was honored by her church as Deaconess Emeritus. Most of her life was spent in the Clendenin area, working in local dental, banking, and insurance offices. Her greatest joy, however, was providing safe haven for her grandchildren after school and during their summer breaks.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her parents, Claude and Belle Hess, her husband of 49 years, Gordon Humphreys, her brother, Earl Hess, and her sister, Marian Andrews. She is survived by her brothers Charles Hess, Jimmy Hess (Gennie), and Robert Hess (Patsy), her sons Dana Humphreys (Debbie) and Matt Humphreys, daughter Jane Murphy (Marc), grandchildren Zack Humphreys, Josh Humphreys (Amanda), Emily Cadle, Nate Murphy (Miranda), and Leanne Gardner (Steve), and great-grandchildren Hunter and Kieran Murphy, Abbey and Jaxon Gardner, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Celia Frances Humphreys.
Her body is being donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry as was her husband's 15 years prior. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Clendenin at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the First Baptist Church of Clendenin or to your favorite charity in her name.
