Frank Dale McKinney, 90, of Six Mile, passed from his earthly home to his eternal heavenly home on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at home.
He was born August 14, 1927 to his parents, Jesse and Ina (Sanders) McKinney. He was a member of the Chapmanville Church of Christ. Frank served in WWII in the Navy, stationed in the Allusion Islands. Later he made coal mining his career. He and his sweetheart, Leona, loved to fish. He was an avid gardener and especially loved mowing grass. Daddy was a model Christian, husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger. Sharing stories was always a favorite pastime.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Ina (Six Mile); sister Iona Burrows (NC); brother John (OK) and great granddaughter Savannah.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Leona (Stollings) McKinney; sister Linda Workman (OH); sons and daughter-in-laws Roger and Mary McKinney (Six Mile), Wayne and Hazel McKinney (Mud River) and daughter and son-in-law Regina and Dwain Green (Six Mile); grandchildren; Billy, Traci, Joyce, Patrick, Leigh Ann, and Cody; great grandchildren; Landyn, Hayley, Jauna, Dylan, Bradley, Ashley, Laif, Jacob, Mason, Jacie, Trice, Tate and Cash.
The Six Mile Community will miss this strong, independent and giving man. The family would like to thank the Dignity staff for their compassion and gentle care during his final days at home.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm Sunday, October 22 at Handley Funeral Home Danville with Richard Runyon, Kenneth Mitchell and Johnny Steel officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens Madison. Friends may call from 6-8pm Saturday October 21 at the funeral home.
