Freddie Elkins, 72, of Hewett passed away on February 22, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, WV.
II Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Freddie was born September 18, 1940 at Jeffrey, WV and was the son of Gladys Elkins and the late Lucian Elkins of Hewett.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Elkins of Hewett; daughters, Annette (Danny)Elkins Rogers of Mt. Airy, NC and Donna Elkins Craddock of Hewett; son, David Elkins of Cary, NC; sister, Freda Dent of Fayetteville, NC; six grandchildren, Nicholle (Tim), Jodie, Kayla, Kara, Krista and Dylan; four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Breanna, Paislea and Daniel.
Freddie graduated from Scott High School in 1959 and was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends every third Saturday in August at the Missouri Fork Reunion. He also enjoyed working on lawn mowers and other things in his garage where several friends would gather to help him. His most recent past time was working as his store, Coal Fields Country Store at Hewett. Those who knew him admired his intense humor and helpful hands.
Freddie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Special thanks to the staff and physicians at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 27 at Spencer Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger McCauley and the Rev. Don Austin (Freddie’s cousin) officiating. Burial will follow in the Elkins Family Cemetery on Missouri Fork, Hewett, WV.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
