Genevieve Lambert Cantley, 89, of Peytona went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2018 following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by husband(s), Arthur Lambert and Lester Cantley; son, James Lambert; grandchildren Tammy Lambert, Robbie Holstein, and Ritchie Harless; brothers, Henry, Robert, and Dempsey Holstein; sister, Betty Vanatter; and parents Stephen and Maggie Holstein.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Betty (Ike) Holstein, Juanita (Roy) Williams, Norene (Doyle) Barker, David (Tracy) Lambert, Rosetta (Rick) Harless, Roger (Kim) Lambert, and Phyllis (Kenny) Weeks. She had 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Genevieve was known for her love of God, her infectious smile, spending time with her family, and always being up for a Sunday drive (any day of the week). She attended various churches throughout the community, until her health declined. She was a volunteer at the Racine Nutrition Center (Senior Center) for 10 years. During this time she helped serve meals, enjoyed occasional weekend getaways with the group, and met husband, Lester Cantley.
Many may not know this about Genevieve, but she was an avid video game player. From her first Nintendo in the late 1980’s, she was hooked. As her health declined and she wasn’t getting out as much, she would frequently pick up a controller to pass the time. We have no doubt this helped keep her mind sharp throughout the years.
Genevieve was grateful for the love, care, and support provided by her children, especially in her last six months. We would also like to acknowledge her youngest granddaughter, Haylee Lambert. Haylee held a special place in her grandmothers heart and was cherished so very much.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14 at Dartmont Cemetery, Ashford, WV with Stevie Cox officiating.
Arrangements by Handley Funeral Home in Danville.
