Gerald E. McCray Sr., 84, of Danville born March 12, 1930 went to “sit back and rock” with the Lord and his wife of 58 years, Mary E. McCray, on June 28, 2014.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ralph and Manetta McCray; two brothers, Pete and Ralph McCray; and sister, Charlotte Weislogel.
He left to this world his wisdom, courage and guidance in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter, Carol Baum and her husband, Brian of Danville; sons, Wayne McCray and his wife Karen of Bim and Jerry McCray Jr. and his wife Jeannie of Cabot, AR; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gerald was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church of Uneeda, lifetime member of the Fairview, PA Volunteer Fire Department and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He also worked 18 years for the railroad and 22 years as a chemical operator for Calcicat (Erie, PA), where he retired.
He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, known for his generosity and love towards everybody he encountered. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be 11 am Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Ray Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
