Gladys Elkins

Gladys Elkins of Hewett, WV went home to be with Jesus on January 24, 2014. She was born August 16, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lucian Elkins; son, Freddie Elkins; parents, Bertha and Berry Sheppard; sisters, Bertha Austin, Della Pauley and Nell Woods; brothers, Jerry Sheppard and Shorty Sheppard.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Freda Dent of Fayetteville, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Elkins of Hewett, WV; sister, Geneva Spencer of Hewett, WV; grandchildren, Annette (Danny) Rogers of Mt Airy, NC, Donna Elkins of Hewett, WV, David Elkins of Cleveland, Ohio and Brad Dent of Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchildren, Nicholle (Tim) McNabb, Jodie Akers, Kayla White, Krista White, Kara White, Kori Dent and Dylan Elkins; and great-great-grandchildren, Lexi, Breanna, Paislea, and Bunker.

Gladys worked at Ellis Dept. Store in Madison, WV for 17 years and was a member of Spencer Chapel United Methodist Church, Hewett for more than 50 years.

Gladys enjoyed being at home, mowing her yard and sitting on her front porch. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Boone Home Health Care and Dignity Hospice.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at Spencer United Methodist Church, Hewett with the Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Elkins Cemetery, Hewett.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
