Gladys Louise Sharp, 85 years old, of Temple, Texas, passed away on September 15, 2023. She was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully. She will be missed by many.
Gladys was born on December 5, 1937, to Nathan and Izora Parsons in Prenter, West Virginia. She went on to graduate from Sherman High School in 1955 and then studied at a business school in Charleston, West Virginia. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at a local insurance company for three years before meeting the love of her life, Virgil Sharp. Later in life, when her children were older, she worked as a bookkeeper at Invacare.
In 1955 Gladys met Virgil Sharp at Hopkins Fork Baptist Church. They wed on July 4, 1959; there may have been fireworks that night. They went on to have two children, Gregory Lee Sharp and Sheila Marie Overy. Gladys was a dedicated mother and grandmother, raising two children, nurturing seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gladys was our biggest cheerleader and our constant supporter. Our family would not be where it is today if we had not had Gladys as our family’s matriarch. She loved her family, Southern Gospel quartet music and a good chicken pot pie. Gladys adored children, and when she wasn’t raising her own children, she was sharing her love by caring for other children. She was an active member of her church, Cleveland Freewill Baptist Church while living in Ohio. More recently she attended Foundation Global Methodist Church in Temple, Texas.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Izora Parsons, brothers Jimmy Parsons, Bobby Parsons, Roger Dale, Tony Parsons, sister Juanita Wishon, and brother-in-law Daniel Sharp.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 64 years, Virgil Sharp of Temple, Texas; her son Gregory Sharp (Monique) of Belton Texas and daughter Sheila Overy (Robert) of Grafton, Ohio. Grandchildren Brian Sharp (Ezekiel), Bradley Sharp (Tiffany), Jessica Sharp, Faith Redus (Noah), Garret Sharp (Chyanne), Caleb Sharp, Bryson Sharp and Hannah Overy (Dakota); great-grandchildren Julian Sharp, Emily Sharp and Bradley Sharp; siblings Carol Campas, George Parsons (Carol), Sharon Coyne (Bill), Beverly Harvey, Kathy Weikle (Virgil), and Diane Parsons.
