Gloria June Bender

Gloria Bender, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Big Ugly Creek Road following a long battle of kidney disease. She was born June 16, 1937 to Hobert and Fancie (Miller) Bell of Turtle Creek, WV.

Gloria was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, being baptized at the age of 13. She was a graduate of Scott High School and attended Charleston Business College. Gloria was a homemaker, a wonderful mother, wife, and a friend to everyone. She enjoyed cooking and spending most summers camping in Greenbrier County with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Eugene “Bob” Bender; her loving son, Todd Bender; parents Hobert and Fancie Bell; grandparents W.N. Bill and Jessie Bell, E.S. and Zella Miller; and beloved cousin that she grew up with Erma Nelson.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Vickie (Allen Duane) Kuhn of Turtle Creek, WV; grandson and fiancé Michael (Sarah Sycks) of Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law Michele Bender of Charleston, WV; Brothers-in-law Vernon and Donna Bender, Clarence and Claire Bender, and Ronald Porter. Sisters-in-law Sherry Bender, Diana Bender, Billie Marie Bender; step-mother Loretta Bell. Step-sisters Sharlene Dingess, Renita Thompson; step-brothers James Ferrell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be Friday, September 27, 2024 at 2:00pm at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Rev. Tom Bias officiating. Burial will follow at Family Gardens on Low Gap Road in Madison, WV. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm until time of service at the funeral home. 

The family would like to thank everyone who has helped in any way. Also special thanks to the caregivers taking care of Mom – Sandy “Sis” Vance, Janet Hannah, Denise Pritchard, Janie Meadows, and Della Pennington.
