Gregory Wayne Mitchell "BB" of Alkol, WV passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at home after a sudden illness. He was born in Madison, WV on July 7, 1948 to his parents Millard and Violet (Ramsey) Mitchell. (With the late William Gillispie being a special person in his life.)
He was a retired UMWA coal miner with 37 years active service and over 50 years as a member of UMWA Local 2286. He had a slew of great friends that he loved and thought of always from Hobet 21, Mitchell's Tavern and sporting teams over the years. He had a love/hate relationship with the WVU Mountaineers but always bled Gold & Blue and had an unwavering love for #3, the man in black. He cherished his time spent over the years at sporting events watching his two sons and grandchildren compete. He was always at home in the outdoors, especially with a fishing pole in his hands. He also loved to cook and his friends and family loved to eat it. Most of all, he had the biggest of hearts.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Mitchell (Holestin) of 55 years. His two sons GW (Crystal) Mitchell of Alkol and Todd (Misty) Mitchell of Alkol. His beloved grandchildren Sierra Mitchell, Cole Mitchell, Ty Mitchell, Ridar Mitchell, Casey Mitchell, and Violet Mitchell plus Whitley (Corey) Clark and her children Braelyn and Rhyatt Clark.
Visitation will start at 12:30 for family and 1:00 pm for friends. The funeral service at 2:00 pm, Saturday May 11th at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, W with Chuck Gillispie officiating.
Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Park in Danville, W.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Scott Football in his name by mail to Scott High School, 1 Skyhawk Place, Madison, W 25130.
